City of Rocks is a landscape of granite spires in southern Idaho that guided emigrants on the California Trail from 1843 onward; pioneers camped among the rocks and left names still visible at Register Rock. Today the reserve is one of America's premier climbing areas, with over 1,000 routes up the sculpted granite.
Hunt for emigrant signatures at Register Rock and scramble among the spires on easy trails; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, climbers can take on the reserve's demanding traditional and sport routes, some of which ranked among the hardest in the country.
