Minidoka was one of ten camps where the U.S. government imprisoned more than 13,000 Japanese Americans behind barbed wire in Idaho's high desert from 1942 to 1945, two-thirds of them American citizens, incarcerated without trial. The barracks, mess hall, and Honor Roll of internees who served in the Army survive.

Walk the trail past the reconstructed guard tower and barracks; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, walk the full 1.6-mile historic trail and study this hard lesson in civil liberties at every stop.
