Fossil Butte Visitor Center
Address: 864 Chicken Creek Road, Kemmerer, WY 83101
Fifty million years ago this Wyoming ridge lay beneath Fossil Lake, and its limestone beds now yield some of the world's most complete fossils: fishes, crocodiles, turtles, bats, birds, and palm leaves from a subtropical Eocene world.
Watch preparators work in the fossil lab and make fossil rubbings at the visitor center; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the Historic Quarry trail loop up to the fossil beds for wide views of the butte country.
