Three small but jewel-box caves high in American Fork Canyon hold helictites, rare gravity-defying formations that twist in every direction, along with cave bacon and draperies; the 1.5-mile paved trail to the entrance climbs 1,100 feet up the canyon wall.
Hike the paved climb and take the cave tour through the three connected caves. For a challenge, push the steep ascent fast or add the canyon's higher trails above the caves.
