Capitol Reef preserves the Waterpocket Fold, a 100-mile-long wrinkle in the Earth's crust where rainbow sandstone cliffs, domes, and narrow canyons hide Fremont Culture petroglyphs and the pioneer orchards of Fruita, where visitors can still pick fruit in season.

Pick apples in the historic orchards, see ancient petroglyphs, and drive the scenic road through the fold; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, climb to Cassidy Arch or slot through the narrows of the Grand Wash.
