Red Hills Visitor Center (West)

Address: 2700 N Kinney Rd, Tucson, AZ 85743

Saguaro protects two districts of Sonoran Desert flanking Tucson, home to the giant saguaro cactus, which can live 150 years and grow 40 feet tall. The west district's volcanic rocks differ sharply from the east district's older Rincon Mountains, which rise to 8,666 feet at Mica Mountain.

Drive the scenic loops and walk short desert nature trails among the giant cacti; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, climb to Wasson Peak, the 4,687-foot high point of the Tucson Mountains, on a steep desert trail.
