Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Visitor Center
Address: 900 Kennesaw Mountain Dr., Kennesaw, GA 30152
Kennesaw Mountain preserves the ground where, in June 1864, William T. Sherman's Union army attacked entrenched Confederates in the Atlanta Campaign and was bloodily repulsed, nowhere worse than at Cheatham Hill, remembered as the Dead Angle. Historic earthworks and cannon still mark the lines.
See the museum's film, walk among the earthworks, and drive to the mountain summit; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the battlefield's 17-plus miles of trails, including the classic route over the mountain and out to Cheatham Hill.
