National Prisoner of War Museum
Address: 760 POW Rd, Andersonville, GA 31711
Andersonville preserves Camp Sumter, the Confederate prison where nearly 13,000 of the 45,000 Union soldiers held here in 1864-1865 died of disease, starvation, and exposure. The site includes the reconstructed stockade line, the national cemetery begun during the war, and the National Prisoner of War Museum honoring American POWs of all eras.
Walk the prison site, visit the national cemetery, and try the museum's interactive exhibits. For a challenge, walk the full perimeter of the 26-acre prison grounds, passing the stockade posts and the sites of the shelters where prisoners suffered.
