Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site Visitor Center
Address: 1212 West Montgomery Road, Tuskegee Institute, AL 36088
Tuskegee Institute was founded in 1881 to train Black teachers in the post-Civil War South, and under Booker T. Washington its students literally built the campus, making bricks and erecting buildings as part of their education. The historic site includes The Oaks, Washington's home, and the George Washington Carver Museum honoring the scientist who revolutionized Southern agriculture.
Explore Carver's laboratory and his hundreds of peanut and sweet potato products, tour the historic campus, and visit The Oaks; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, take the full ranger-led tour of The Oaks plus a deep walk through the entire historic campus.
