Tuskegee Airmen NHS Visitor Center
Address: 1616 Chappie James Ave, Tuskegee, AL 36083
At Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama, this site preserves the primary flight training base of the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering African American pilots and crews who broke the military's color barrier in World War II. The field, built in 1941 and named for Tuskegee Institute principal Robert Russa Moton, is interpreted in two historic hangars.
See vintage training aircraft and try the hands-on exhibits in the hangar museums. For a challenge, settle in for the full visit: the site's oral-history films plus both hangars' detailed exhibits on the Airmen's combat record.
