This 54-room Beaux-Arts palace in Hyde Park, built 1896-1899 for Frederick Vanderbilt, is one of the finest surviving estates of the Gilded Age, when railroad fortunes built marble mansions along the Hudson. The formal gardens sweep down to the river.

Tour the opulent rooms and roam the gardens and riverfront trails. For a challenge, take the full mansion tour and walk the estate's carriage roads with views across the Hudson Valley.
