Address: 7400 Grant Road, St. Louis, MO 63123

White Haven, ten miles from St. Louis, was the childhood home of Julia Dent Grant and the plantation where Ulysses S. Grant lived from 1854 to 1859, farming alongside the enslaved people the Dent family held. Grant himself briefly owned an enslaved man, William Jones, whom he freed in 1859. Five historic structures survive.

Tour the green main house and explore the outbuildings and museum. For a challenge, take the full ranger program on Grant's years here, a nuanced story of slavery, failure, and the making of a general.
