Nez Perce National Historical Park spans 38 sites across Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, telling the story of the Nez Perce people and the 1877 war in which non-treaty bands under leaders including Chief Joseph fought and outmaneuvered the U.S. Army on a 1,170-mile flight toward Canada.

Visit the Spalding site's museum and walk the nearby historic sites; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, trace the 1877 route along the Nez Perce National Historic Trail, a multi-state journey from the Wallowa Valley to Bear Paw.
