Address: 200 Moores Creek Dr., Currie, NC 28435
On February 27, 1776, a thousand North Carolina Patriots with cannon and muskets ambushed Loyalist Highlanders charging across a dismantled bridge over Moores Creek, a three-minute victory that ended royal rule in North Carolina and helped push the colonies toward declaring independence.
Walk the one-mile battlefield trail across the reconstructed bridge; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, walk the full trail and the colonial forest loop, studying the Loyalist story the victors wrote around it.
