Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

Lake Meredith fills a Canadian River canyon in the Texas Panhandle, where Sanford Dam created 10,000 acres of water among the mesas; the surrounding shortgrass prairie holds traces of 13,000 years of human history, from Folsom hunters to the Alibates flint quarries next door.

Swim, fish, and boat on the lake and visit the Alibates quarries area; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, mountain bike the rugged Harbor Bay trail or boat to remote coves under the canyon walls.
