Fort Union was the most important fur trading post on the upper Missouri River from 1829 to 1867, where Assiniboine, Crow, Blackfeet, and other tribal traders exchanged bison robes for goods from St. Louis and Europe. The partially reconstructed fort rises again at its original site near the Yellowstone confluence.

Explore the trade room, the bastions, and the palisade. For a challenge, time a visit for the annual fur trade rendezvous or walk the grounds down to the riverfront where the keelboats landed.
