Devils Tower National Monument Visitor Center
Address: Hwy 110 Bldg 170, Devils Tower, WY 82714
Devils Tower, a column of igneous rock rising 867 feet above the Wyoming plains, became America's first national monument in 1906 under the new Antiquities Act. Its fluted columns formed as underground magma cooled and cracked, and the tower, known to Plains tribes as Bear Lodge, remains sacred in Native traditions.
Circle the base on the 1.3-mile Tower Trail and watch the prairie dog town; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, skilled climbers can register and ascend the tower's classic crack climbs.
