Address: 3 Washington Parkway, Farmington, PA 15437

Here in 1754 a young George Washington built a small stockade in a meadow and, on July 3, surrendered to French and Indigenous forces, an opening clash that helped ignite the French and Indian War. The reconstructed fort stands where archaeology found it, and the site also preserves the Mount Washington Tavern from the National Road era.

Explore the stockade and the visitor center's exhibits on Washington's first command, and visit the Mount Washington Tavern. For a challenge, walk the full battlefield grounds and forest trail to understand why this charming field for an encounter was anything but.
