Ben Reifel Visitor Center

Address: 25216 Ben Reifel Road, Interior, SD 57750

The Badlands are a dreamscape of eroded buttes and spires holding one of the world's richest fossil beds, where ancient rhinos, horses, and saber-toothed cats emerge from the rock; the Lakota knew this as mako sica, and the park's South Unit is co-managed with the Oglala Lakota.

Walk the Door and Window boardwalks and hunt for fossils on the Fossil Exhibit Trail; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, climb the Notch Trail's log ladder to a ledge above the White River valley.
