Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Visitor Center
Address: 100 Pinnacle View Rd., Middlesboro, KY 40965
The Cumberland Gap is the great natural doorway through the Appalachian Mountains, used by bison, by Native peoples, and by hundreds of thousands of settlers who poured through it toward Kentucky between 1775 and 1810. The park spans the Kentucky-Tennessee-Virginia tripoint and preserves the mountaintop Hensley Settlement.
Take in Pinnacle Overlook, tour Gap Cave, and walk the old Wilderness Road; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the steep trail up to Hensley Settlement or take on the 21-mile Ridge Trail along the mountain crest.
