Andrew Johnson NHS Visitor Center
Address: Andrew Johnson NHS Visitor Center, 101 North College Street, Greeneville, TN 37743
Andrew Johnson, a tailor who never attended school, became the 17th president when Lincoln was assassinated, and survived the first presidential impeachment trial by a single vote. This Greeneville, Tennessee site preserves his tailor shop, two of his homes, and his grave in the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
See the tiny tailor shop and watch the visitor center film; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, tour both Johnson homes and walk the cemetery hill he chose for his burial, wrapped in a flag with a copy of the Constitution.
