Chamizal National Memorial Cultural Center
Address: 800 South San Marcial Street, El Paso, TX 79905
When the shifting Rio Grande moved a piece of Mexico called the Chamizal into Texas, the two nations quarreled for a century until a 1963 treaty peacefully returned the land, celebrated at this El Paso memorial as a triumph of diplomacy over conflict. The park hosts music, dance, and theater honoring border culture.
Visit the museum of border history, play in the riverside park, and catch a performance at the amphitheater. For a challenge, walk the borderland trails along the international line and study the treaty story in the museum's full exhibits.
