In Topeka's former Monroe Elementary School, once a segregated school for Black children, this park tells the story of Brown v. Board of Education, the 1954 Supreme Court decision that unanimously declared segregated schools 'inherently unequal' and set the nation on the long road to desegregation.
Explore hands-on exhibits about fairness and the five families whose cases became Brown; young kids especially connect with the classroom displays. For a challenge, work through the full museum, including the powerful 'Education and Justice' galleries in the school's original halls.
