Wupatki Visitor Center
Address: 25137 N. Sunset Crater-Wupatki Loop Rd., Flagstaff, AZ 86004
After Sunset Crater's eruption around 1085 blanketed the land in ash and enriched the soil, farming communities blossomed here, and Wupatki Pueblo grew into a 100-room, four-story great house with a ballcourt and a natural blowhole that breathes cave air. Hopi clans still return to the pueblo today.
Walk the trail around Wupatki Pueblo, feel the blowhole's wind, and visit the outlying pueblos; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, make a long day of visiting all the monument's pueblos, from Wukoki's lonely tower to the Citadel above the sinkhole.
