Address: 1000 North Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Kills, NC 27948

On December 17, 1903, on the sands of Kill Devil Hills, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first powered, controlled airplane flights in history, the longest just 852 feet, after years of glider experiments on the dunes; the granite monument crowns the hill where they launched.

Walk the flight path markers, see the reconstructed camp buildings, and study the full-size flyer reproduction; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, climb Big Kill Devil Hill where the gliders first soared and walk the full flight line.
