William Penn Mott Jr. Presidio Visitor Center
Address: 210 Lincoln Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94129
The Presidio guarded the Golden Gate for 218 years under three flags: founded by Spain in 1776, held by Mexico, and a U.S. Army post from 1846 to 1994, its red-roofed barracks now form a national park of forests, trails, and views at the bridge's foot.
Walk to the Golden Gate overlooks, explore the old batteries, and roam the Presidio Tunnel Tops park. For a challenge, hike the Batteries to Bluffs trail to Marshall's Beach or climb the Presidio's longer ridge trails.
