Minuteman preserves the last intact Minuteman II nuclear missile system, a sobering monument to the Cold War, when 450 missiles around South Dakota stood ready to launch in minutes. The Delta-09 silo can be viewed from above, and the Delta-01 launch control center is open on ranger tours.
Peer down into a real missile silo and explore the visitor center's Cold War exhibits. For a challenge, reserve the hard-to-get Delta-01 tour, descending into the underground capsule where launch crews held the keys.
