Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center
Address: National Park Service, 2120 West Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive, Little Rock, AR 72202
In September 1957, nine Black teenagers walked past an angry mob and into Central High School under the protection of the Army's 101st Airborne Division, forcing the first major test of school desegregation after Brown v. Board of Education. Central High is still a working school, and the story of the Little Rock Nine is told at the visitor center across the street.
Walk the route the Nine took and explore the visitor center's exhibits. For a challenge, take the ranger-led tour of the school (when in session) for the fullest account of the crisis.
