Kings Mountain National Military Park

Address: Kings Mountain National Military Park, 2300 Park Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702

On October 7, 1780, backcountry Patriot militia surrounded and destroyed Major Patrick Ferguson's Loyalist force atop this wooded ridge, a victory Thomas Jefferson called 'the turn of the tide' in the Revolutionary War's Southern campaign.

Walk the 1.5-mile battlefield loop up the ridge and see the Ferguson monument; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, add the park's 16 miles of trails, including a section of the Overmountain Victory Trail the militia actually marched.
