Address: 965 Gray Rocks Road, Fort Laramie, WY 82212

Fort Laramie began in 1834 as a fur-trading post where the Laramie meets the North Platte and became the great military and emigrant station of the Oregon Trail era, hosting the great treaty councils of 1851 and 1868 with the Plains tribes. Dozens of restored and ruined buildings surround the parade ground.

Explore the cavalry barracks, the 1876 officers' quarters, and Old Bedlam; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, walk the full grounds and the river confluence trail, tracing emigrant ruts and ferry crossings.
