Salt Pond Visitor Center
Address: 50 Nauset Road, Eastham, MA 02642
Created in 1961 after Senator John F. Kennedy championed it, the seashore protects 40 miles of Cape Cod's Atlantic-facing beaches, towering dunes, salt marshes, and the famous 'elbow' where Thoreau walked and wrote.
Swim and body-surf at the guarded beaches, walk the Nauset Marsh boardwalk, and bike the Province Lands trails; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the remote Great Island trail at low tide, one of the Northeast's great beach walks.
