Laboratory Complex Visitor Center

Address: 211 Main Street, West Orange, NJ 07052

Edison's West Orange laboratory, the world's first true industrial research lab, is where the phonograph was perfected, motion pictures were born in the Black Maria studio, and teams of engineers turned invention into an industry; his hilltop mansion Glenmont stands nearby.

Hear a real phonograph play, see the Black Maria, and tour the lab complex; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, tour the full three-story lab complex and the Glenmont estate where Edison lived.
