Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine
Address: 2400 East Fort Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21230
This 560-mile land and water trail traces the War of 1812's Chesapeake Campaign, from Tangier Island, Virginia through Maryland and Washington, DC to Baltimore, where the bombardment of Fort McHenry inspired the national anthem.
Hike or bike short trail segments, paddle the water route, and hunt the Star-Spangled Banner Geotrail's geocaches, which young kids especially enjoy. For a challenge, kayak a multi-mile stretch of the water trail on the open Chesapeake.
