Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site
Address: P.O. Box 280, Danville, CA 94526
Tao House in Danville, California is where Eugene O'Neill, America's only Nobel Prize-winning playwright, wrote his final masterworks, including The Iceman Cometh and Long Day's Journey into Night. The Monterey Colonial home is preserved much as the O'Neills left it in 1944.
Tour the house by reservation (self-guided on Saturdays) and walk the grounds with views of Mount Diablo. For a challenge, make the literary pilgrimage the old way, arriving on foot up the hillside path as visitors did in O'Neill's day.
