Cape Krusenstern's beach ridges are a frozen timeline of Arctic archaeology: each ridge was once the shoreline, and campsites preserved on them span more than 4,000 years of Eskimo cultures. Whales, brown bears, and seals use the coast, as do local Iñupiat subsistence hunters today.
There are no roads or facilities; visitors fly in from Kotzebue to explore the coast with a local guide and beachcomb along the lagoons. For a challenge, seasoned backcountry travelers can camp and kayak among the lagoons in one of the most remote corners of Alaska.
