Visitor Center and View Building
Address: 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, CA 92106
Cabrillo marks the spot where Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's expedition landed on September 28, 1542, the first Europeans to set foot on the West Coast of what became the United States. The Point Loma site also holds the 1855 Old Point Loma Lighthouse, protected tidepools, and the Whale Overlook where gray whales pass December through March.
Explore the tidepools at low tide, climb into the lighthouse, and watch for gray whales in winter; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the Bayside Trail down the point's steep coastal sage scrub slopes for wide views of San Diego Bay.
