Address: Lewis and Clark National Historical Park 92343 Fort Clatsop Road, Astoria, OR 97103

Here near the mouth of the Columbia River, the Lewis and Clark Expedition spent the soggy winter of 1805-06 at Fort Clatsop after reaching the Pacific; the reconstructed fort anchors a park spanning both states' shores.

Explore the fort's cramped rooms and watch flintlock demonstrations; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, hike the 6.5-mile Fort to Sea Trail from the fort through coastal forest to the ocean the Corps of Discovery finally reached.
