Hopewell Culture National Historical Park

Two thousand years ago, the Hopewell people of the Ohio Valley built enormous geometric earthworks, squares, circles, and octagons aligned to the moon, and buried their honored dead in mounds with artistry from across the continent. Mound City's 23 mounds are fully restored.

Walk among the mounds at Mound City and see the museum's remarkable artifacts; young kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge. For a challenge, visit the outlying sites like the great Hopewell earthworks and Seip Mound in one long day.
