Aleutian World War II National Historic Area Visitor Center
Address: 2716 Airport Beach Road, Unalaska, AK 99865
On June 7, 1942, Japan invaded American soil here in the Aleutians, occupying Attu and Kiska, and Dutch Harbor became the front line of a brutal fog-shrouded campaign. Fort Schwatka's coastal guns still crown Mount Ballyhoo above Unalaska.
Explore the concrete bunkers and gun mounts of Fort Schwatka and visit the museum in the old aerology building. For a challenge, hike Mount Ballyhoo's steep slopes among the wartime ruins in one of America's most remote historic sites.
